LOOKING THROUGH THE MASK

"For me an anesthesia provider, we are used to wearing the mask and face shields. However, the additional equipment we have been required to wear (respirators, PAPRs, double gloving, etc.) has been very challenging.

The respirator, while it protects me, also muffles my voice, so I have to talk louder so I can be heard. A simple phone call becomes complicated in the OR because I first have to raise my face shield, then hold the phone with one hand and then, with my other hand, pull the respirator forward so I can be understood. All this while talking to the blood bank about the patient, so I have to find another free limb to navigate the computer mouse."
